The Kaiapoi Amateur Swimming Club opened its season at the public baths on Saturday afternoon, when there was a fair attendance in spite of unfavourable weather conditions. The Mayor (Rev W. H. A. Vickery), in declaring the season open, congratulated the club members on the enthusiasm shown and wished them a successful season. Durmg the afternoon E. M’Conville gave an exhibition swim of 100yds, breaking the baths record for the 50yds distance 28 2-ssec), his time being 27 3-ssec. The events resulted as follows: Men’s race, 50yds—First heat: O.
