Ricc&rton Public Library. At the monthly committee meeting of the Riccarton Public Library there were present:—Mr O. D. Fraser (in the chair), Mesdames T. M. Ford, M. Clayworth and R. G. Malcolm son, Messrs A. E. Steere, P. C. Jones, F. Till, S. Wilson, T. M. Ford, A. Fisher (treasurer) and L. W. Ormandy (secretary). Mr K. Milne was elected to the committee. The secretary reported that during the month twenty-nine new books had been placed on the shelves, 1316 books had been issued, four new subscribers had joined and twenty-two books had been repaired. The sum of £ls was allocated for the purchase of new books for the month. The matter of granting concessions was held over until the annual meeting. The matter of a magazine section was also left over till the annual meeting. a a Opawa Pound Scheme. The final meeting of those interested in the pound scheme in the Opawa district was held in the school, Mr W L. Thomas being in the chair. The secretary, Mr H. H. Ellison, reported that over four tons of goods, as well as many bundles of clothing and boots, a cord of wood, thirty-eight gallons of milk and £25 7s Id in cash, had been received. He eulogised the work of the Rev L. M’Master at his depot in Woolston, and expressed thanks to Dr Hansen for the use of his house as a depot. Thanks were also extended to all those who had donated goods, those who had allowed the use of their houses as
depots, those who carried the goods and those who helped to sort and pack each week. It was decided to send letters to the pupils of the Technical Hostel, Opawa and St Mark’s Schools expressing appreciation of their fine work in collecting. The chairman expressed his appreciation of the work of the secretary, upon whom the success of the scheme had largely depended.
