7ax Declarations.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —In company with a great many of your readers I do not understand the Declaration of Income other than salary or wages. My interpretation is thi3: I get £260 out of my business, and I have to pay a charge on two-thirds of my income from March 31, 1930, till March 31, 1931. The charge is 3d in the £. My employees pay the same rate from August 1, 1931, business people paying sixteen months before their employees. If you would kindly tell me through the columns of your paper if my interpretation is correct you would be doing a great many, myself included, a great favour.—l am, etc., SMALL BUSINESS. Under the declaration of income, the taxpayer is levied at the rate of threepence in the pound on two-thirds of his income other than salary or wages for the year ending March 31, 1931. For the following twelve months to March 31, 1932, he pays on onethird of his income other than salary or wages. This will bring him into the same position as the man paying the wage tax. as from March, 1932.—Ed., “ Star.”
