PIGEON FLYING.
Christchurch Premier Club’s Races. The Christchurch Premier Pigeon Club conducted races from Dannevirke, Kaikoura and Seacliff during the weekend. The birds racing from Dannevirke were liberated in good weather, but encountered a gale and snow in the South Island, which prevented them homing on the day. Only a few birds were timed in on the Sunday morning before the time allowed for the race closed. The winning bird, owned by Mr A. Pegley, flew the 301 miles 992yds air line in 14hrs Omin 56sec, after deducting time allowed' for darkness. The Kaikoura race was flown under good conditions. The winning bird, owned by Mr J. Close, flew the 104 miles 1025yds air line in 2hrs 45min. Good conditions also favoured the birds flying from Seacliff. The winning bird, owned by Mr S. Mallard, flew the 189 miles 1303yds air line in 4hrs 33min 58sec. Following were the velocities:— Dannevirke Race. Yds per min. A. Pegley’s Marilda 6'31 L. Wrenn’s Adlon 629 L. Rolton’s Signal 625 A.
