Widow’s Claim Sequel to Progress Wreck. DEATH OF FIRST MATE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 1. The claim made by Matilda May Lawton, widow, against the Holm Shipping Compan}', for compensation for the death of her husband, Frank Lawton, first mate of the ship Progress, which was wrecked last May, was the subject of a reserved judgment in the Arbitration Court to-day’. The Court held that the case came within section 11. of the Workers’ Compensation Act, which excludes from the operation of the Act any person employed otherwise than by way of manual labour, and whose remuneration exceeds £4OO per annum. Judgment was accordingly given for defendant company.
