SUMNER BOROUGH.

Council Expects Strenuous Year. The Sumner Borough Council met last evening; present—the Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson), Councillors A. Holden H. L. Wiggins. J. E. Tait, C. Hart. J. S. Barr, G. F. Allen and H. W. Harris. The Mayor said that with half the financial year now over, it was apparent that a very strenuous year would be experienced. The outlook did not appear very bright, but the council would do its best with the money at its command. The secretary of the Sumner Cricket Club wrote asking for permission to use St Leonard’s Square from October 1 to March 3. subject to the usual conditions. Permission was granted. The Redcliffs Burgesses’ Association wrote asking that attention be given to the footpath on Estuary Road. It was decided to reply that the engineer had already received instructions to effect repairs. A statement in connection with a concert held recently in the Sumner Town Hall, in aid of unemployment relief. was submitted, and showed that a profit of £6 17s had been made.
