FOURTEEN DAYS’ GAOL.
Man Stole Money from Fellow Employee. (Special to the ” Star.”) ASHBURTON, September 2. Charged with the theft of £7 17s 7d which he had obtained on terms requiring him to account for it to John Smith, a labourer, Percival William Mayq.s, aged 25 years, appeared before Messrs R. Clark, J.P., and J. W. Bowden, J.P., in the Police Court, Ashburton, this morning. Senior-Sergeant Martin explained that the accused was given a cheque for £lO from a fellow-employee on Sheate’s farm at Westerfield to buy articles of clothing in Ashburton. He forwarded the articles purchased, but kept the change and was on his way to Christchurch when arrested. Accused was sentenced to fourteen day-s’ imprisonment.
