RUMOUR OF BIG THEFT.

Sum of £4O Allegedly Stolen from Winter Show. A story that a woman, working at the Winter Show yesterday, had the sum of £4O stolen from her was current in the city this morning, but officials of the Show and the police state that as yet they have had no report of any such theft. It was stated that the woman, not named, was making up the takings at a side-show, during the clearing up process at the Show, and left the money lying unguarded while she went away for a moment. When she returned the money was gone. No report of any large sum being stolen was made to either officials or police, it was stated this morning, and they doubted the truth of the rumour. There had been few reports of thefts from stalls, it was said, and they had all been of a trifling nature.
