GALES CAUSE DAMAGE.
Heavy Seas Wreck Buildings on Coasts. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, August 18. Heavy gales around the English coasts did great damage yesterday. Beach equipment was wrecked at a large number of seaside resorts. The Sussex coast was swept by heavy seas, and at Winchelsea, buildings on the beach were flooded and wrecked. A low-lying area was threatened with extensive inundation, but the wind and seas abated before high tide, early this morning. Great damage was done to a promenade in course of construction at Fleetwood. At Yarmouth, where new sea defences were partially completed, the damage is estimated at £3OOO. Heavy rain fell again yesterday in many parts of the country causing floods and landslides in the North of England, and in Scotland and Wales there were many acres flooded.
