POWER BOARD MEETS.
. Many Defective Poles Replaced. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, August 17. The monthly meeting of the Ashburton Electric Power Board was held this morning, Mr F. W. Watt presiding. The engineer-secretary, Mr H. G. Kemp, reported that the replacement of defective bluegum poles with ironbark had been continued, a further 125 having been erected. The replacement of defective no’es was now being carried out on the Dorie line. The following number of replacements had been made during the month: Seaview 8. Elgin 33, Hinds 52, Rakaia 10, Dorie 17, sundries 5. A further 305 poles had been received and unloaded at Rakaia. These were being used on the Dorie, River Road, Fletcher’sLauriston and Rakaia town lines. The majority of them had been already carted out. Following the overhaul of the Dorie line, it was proposed to clear up Rakaia township, River Road, Holmeslea and Fletcher’s-Lauriston line. Inspection had been completed on the main High-bank-Barrhill line, and would be continued on the branches.
The running engineer, Mr A. T. Saunders, reported that 509,166.6 units had been supplied by Lake Coleridge and 1938.3 by the Diesel plant during the month. The latter had been running for 22hrs 19min, using 154 gallons of crude oil. A heavy north-west gale on July 18 caused a loss of twenty-nine poles, but only one had been brought down by the snow on July 9.
