GRAVE OUTLOOK FOR FARMERS

How Disaster may be Averted. rpHE SENSATIONAL DROP in the price of wool during the past two seasons is a matter of the gravest importance to farmers, and to New Zealand generally. Realising that “ something must be done, - ’ active steps are being taken to encourage the public to use more woo!. With this end in view the “ Wool Pageants and Carnival Committee ” have asked the Retailers in the City to give prominence by means of special window displays, to the important place wool occupies in our national well being. Hay’s Limited are glad to co-operate with the Committee, and the display allocated to them is designed to show how the prehistoric child was dressed before wool was thought of. In order to convey this idea one of Hay's Windows has been turned into a caye, and children of the prehistoric age will be shewn amusing themselves with what children did-in those ancient times. Hay’s* window is the first of the series, and from there you will be directed to the next in order. Thus you can follow the story of the evolution of wool.

POPULAR MUSIC. The evergrowing popularity of the Vocation Gramophone records, stocked by Hay’s, Limited, .is due to the excellent reproduction of these low-priced records. The Vocalion is a 12in double-sided record, and there is a wide choice of the latest musical numbers and classical pieces to choose from. The records are sold at 2s fid each. At Hay s this week one of the windows is devoted to a display of Vocation records, and selections wfill be recorded in the window during Friday afternoon and evening. • LIVE MODELS TO DISPLAY HATS. In one of Hay’s windows on Friday afternoon and evening attractive young ladies will display examples of the new' spring millinery. A feature of this season’s millinery is its smartness and very moderate price. In these days of economy there is no necessity to pay high prices for millinery, when such attractive styles can be purchased so reasonably at Hay’s. A WAR-TIME MOVEMENT REVIVED. There is every indication that the vogue for knittjng. so widespread during the war, is being revived. Doubtless this is due to the fact that the public are realising that our prosperity largely depends on an increased consumption ’of wool. In this connection Hay’s have arranged a knitting competition, cash prices of £1 Is first. 7s fid second and 2s 6d third, being offered in two classes of knitting.’ Full particulars obtainable at Hay’s.
