BRANCH MEETING OF FORESTRY LEAGUE.

The annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Forestry League was held last evening, Mr C. I£. Foweraker presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet, already published, were adopted. The chairman, referring to circumstances owing to which the visit of the Hon W. B. Taverner, a former Commissioner of State Forests, had been cancelled, said that he thought they should keep the question of a visit from the present Commissioner in view. Tho suggestion that the State Forest Service should be amalgamated with the Department of Lands and Survey was discussed in committee. It was decided to appoint a committee to make arrangements for school competitions in connection with native flora at the Royal Show. A guinea was voted to the Canterbury Progress League and Mr Winsoi was re-appointed the league’s delegate. The secretary (Mr R. Browning) reported that the approximate membership was eighty, though there were several outstanding subscriptions. Officers were elected as follows: Chairman Mr C. E. Foweraker; vice Chatman, Mr M.
