Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe and a party from Government House will be present at. the Wellington Savage Club’s Ladies’ Korero to-morrow evening at the Wellington Town Hall. Mr and Mrs J. K. Simpson (Lawrence) are guests at Warner’s Hotel.
Mrs G. W. Morrison (Timaru) is staying at the Clarendon Hotel.
Miss M’Kenzie, Timaru, will leave Christchurch to-night for the north. Mr and Mrs J. R. Fairley (Wellington) are recent arrivals at Warner’s Hotel.
Mrs Ernest Le Cren, Ileaton Street, returned to-day from a visit to her daughter, Mrs John Sim, Dunedin.
Mr and Mrs Bruce Murray (Lake Tekapo) are guests at the United Service Hotel.
Mrs A. 11. Wilson, Kaiapoi, has returned home after attending the PageCairns wedding in Ashburton.
Guests at the Hotel Federal include:—Mr W. M. M’Clure (Akaroa), Mr A. B. Linnie (Timaru), Miss Wedd and Mrs Page (Otane, Hawke’s Bay). Bishop and Mrs Mowll, Western China, who have been the guests of Bishop and Mrs West-Watson, Bishopscourt, will leave for the north to-night. Mrs 11. Dykes (formerly Miss May Spiers, the well-known tennis player) and her husband will in future reside in Wellington. Mr Dykes has joined his brother in business .there. Miss Sheila Howell (Cave), Miss Cara Pinckney (“ Glenaray ”), Miss Sylvia Orbell (“Pentlow”), and Miss Diana Orbell (“The Levels”) will all be debutantes at the Hunt Club ball, to be held in Timaru to-morrow night. Miss W. Averill returned to Auckland on Sunday from a visit to Wellington and the South Island. During the latter part of her visit to Wellington, Miss Averill was the guest of their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe.
Jn connection with the street appeal held yesterday for the Methodist, Presbyterian and St. Saviour's Orphanges, the sum of £436 was collected. The organisers wish to express their gratitude to the public for their generous response.
Recent guests at the Franz Josef Glacier Hotel, Waiho Gorge, include:— Messrs M’Kenzie, Pethybridge and F. Bennett (Christchurch), Mr T. Dowe (Wellington), Miss Campbell, Miss Saunders (Dunedin), Mr R. N. Anderson, Mr and Mrs R. Reed (Greymouth), Misses Peake (England).
Miss Zillah Castle, L.A.8., left Wellington by the Marama on Friday for S}'-dney, to connect with the Balranald for London, where she will study at the Royal College of Music. The exhibition scholarship which she gained at the 1930 examination entitles her to a two years’ course.
