FINE IMPOSED ON MAN IN TIMARU COURT.
(Special to the “ Star.”) TIMARU, June 20. As the result of travelling around the countryside and representing himself as a veterinary surgeon a Christchurch man, Arthur John Bruff, aged 43, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today. He was fined £5 and costs for using the title of veterinary surgeon. A charge of obtaining 10s from Denis O’Keefe, of St. Andrews, by falsely representing himself as a veterinary surgeon, was withdrawn. Detective Studholme said that there was nothing dishonest about accused. It was not an ordinary case of false pretences as Bruff did do the work, but at the same time they could not have an unregistered man going around the countryside. Mr A. D. M’Rae, for Bruff, stated that he had been practising for twenty years, but had not made an application under the new Act within the statutory period. Bruff described himself as a horse physician and veterinary dental surgeon. There was a distinction.
Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., said that he could not overlook the fact that accused had been convicted at Inglewood in 1929 for a similar offence.
