JOYLAND THEATRE.

Joyland Theatre, which reopens as a talkie house to-day, will be a great surprise for New Brighton picture patrons. The interior has been entirely redecorated, more comfortable seats have been installed and carpets laid down. Other improvements make the theatre one of the most up-to-date In Christchurch. The work has been under the direction of the new lessee (Mr J. Galanls), who has had wide experience in catering for the public. Contracts for the best attractions have been entered into, and New Brighton is assured of first-class entertainments.

The feature which, perhapi commands the most attention is the iridescent spray falling into its rock pool on front of the screen. In this some very fine lighting effects are secured. The operating box, with Its two 1981 Western Electrio Simplex projectors, is of the latest type, and the operator, Mr W. Benlams, Jun., has reason to be

proud of the fine equipment. The acoustic properties of Joyland, as many know, are excellent. Electric heaters have been Installed. A free matinee for children was riven this afternoon. This evening: Ruth Chatterton and Clive Brook will be shown in “ The Laughing: Lady ”. On Tuesday and Wednesday, " Devil May Care ” will be shown, and on Thursday and Friday “The Divorcee “. The programme will be changed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The prices are Is, Is 6d, 2s, and 6d for children. The seating accommodation is two hundred. The Interior and exterior decorating have been done by Messrs C. T. Rodda and Son, the spray and pool by Mr M. D. Dann, plumber, New Brighton, and the art decorating by Hurdleys.
