Not many people realise that stockings that do not fit perfectly can injure the feet. Stockings that are too tight constrict the feet and lead to corns. Those that are too loose form wrinkles that irritate the skin. Stockings with cotton feet harden with pespiration, and cause the feet to be easily tired. Everyone knows the discomfort of walking in unsuitable stockings. How trying are thick woollen stockings on a warm day! Almost as uncomfortable are thin silk stockings, which quickly wear into holes, on a rough country walk. Stockings need to be choseii with care. They must btt the correct si2e and the right kind for the occasion. Silk ones are really only correct for town and afternoon country wear. For games and general country use, thin woollen mixtures, blends of silk and wool or silk, and cotton that harmonise with tweeds and knitted “ woollies," are best.
