SOUTHBROOK SCHOOL IN “DISGRACEFUL STATE."

The Southbrook School is now no more than a shack, and the grounds are in a disgraceful state, according to a report by Mr W. Johnson to a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board, to-day. Mr Johnson urged that the residents of the district should be persuaded to take an interest in the preservation of the board’s property. The board, which decided to ask the Southbrook Committee to improve the school and grounds, approved of the maintenance foreman’s action in carrying out. urgent repairs and renovations in order to make the school building habitable until such time as a grant vvas available for rebuilding. The School Committee is to be recommended to apply to the Unemployment Committee at Rangiora for sufficient men under the No. 5 scheme to tidy the school grounds.
