INEVITABLE WILL RUN A GREAT RACE.

FORM REVIEWED FOR WASHDYKE MEETING. (By MARTIAN.) The South Canterbury Jockey Clubs winter meeting, to be held at Washdyke on Saturday-, is attracting a lot of interest, and the fixture, with the good fields engaged, should prove an unqualified success from a racing if not from a financial point of view. The programme is a varied one, comprising flat, hurdles and steeplechase events, while the two trotting events will add an extra interest for light harness fans. Proceedings will commence with the Pukaki Hurdles Handicap, •in which the Riccarton gelding Lancer will be making his first appearance since the Ashburton winter meeting last June, after which he broke down. He has been working well, and should run a sound race. Troilus was well backed in his engagement at Wingatui, but missed. He may do better, on a firmer track. Aladdin was responsible for two sound performances when he won in open company at Wingatui, and looks a very promising sort for the future. Craigmore and Desert Glow may not be ready, but Camisader was third to Aladdin and Membo at Wingatui, and comes in on very good terms. Haze may need a race. Barrington and Oriflamb have been in the money recently, and of the pair the former appeals most. He was third to Troilus and Perle de Leon at the last South Canterbury meeting, heads separating the placed horses, with Aladdin fourth. The winner should come from BARRINGTON ' CAMISADER. Ilkley was a close second to Tea Urn at the Dunedin meeting, but failed subsequently. These two meet in the Novice Handicap, and should take part in the finish. Sleipner has not been up long, and may not be ready. Homecoming’s form has not been convincing, But Tippling looked an early winner at Wingatui. Coroner continues to race disappointingly, and Whatpot’s recent form has not been impressive. He was a well-backed favourite at Ashburton, but did not show up at the finish. Crunchem and Silver Salver appeal most of the others. Two who should take part in the finish are: TIPPLING TEA URN. A good field will contest the Wai-iti i Trot Handicap. Jester and Symmetry are a pair off the front who should go well, while Master Don, who w T as fourth in his race at Ashburton, is on the improve. Prince Wrack looks the best of the others. Perhaps the public will go for JESTER SYMMETRY.

Arikiwai is due to make a re-appear-ance after a long absence in the Prince Edward Handicap, but he cannot be ready and will be better for the race. Royal Saxon did .not shine, at Wingatui in sprint events, a third being his best effort in three starts, but the extra distance will be to his liking. Inevitable impressed the Aucklanders at the winter meeting at Ellerslie, and he must be given a first-irate c.hance. Starshooter is due apy day now once he strikes a firm track/' ' Rascal’s consistency at Wingatui will ensur® him many friends. He was in the money each day without getting the big money, his best effort being over a mile in running second to Punchestown. Noteworthy ran well on the i West Coast circuit and he should be in the money. Glenrowan’s recent efforts point to his coming back to his best, while Wingatui ran good enough races at the Dunedin meeting to suggest that she has only to do her best to be dan- , gerous. First Raid, as usual, may go , another solid race, while Night Maid is due any day now after racing well at Wingatui. ' Shortly was third to Punchestown and Rascal at Wingatui, while Taku Tama has only once been out of a place in ten starts. The race bears an open appearance, but a likely nair are

INEVITABLE NOTEWORTHY. Form at Wingatui will have a big say in the Craigmore Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase Handicap, and in West Dome, Valves and Umtali the public will probably find the winner. Umtali had two outings and was first and second. West Dome was third and first, while Valves -was third in the Dunedin Steeplechase on the final day. The others are not ready. Form points to UMTALI VALVES. Taragona will be a popular fancy in the Temuka Handicap, and he has I only to repeat his Ashburton form to ; make certain of the money. Quinopal has been off the scene for some time, but Jock o’ Ilazeldean, who was second to The Smuggler at Wingatui over seven furlongs, has only to -see out the last bit to be dangerous. Water Power was thirci in a six furlong event at Wingatui, but Palmary and Uxbridge will not be fancied. High Speed is an in-and-out sort and may bring off a surprise. Two who appeal are TARAGONA JOCK O’ HAZELDEAN. Ballade will have hosts of friends in the Beaconsfield Trot Handicap, and if he races up to Oamaru form he will be troublesome. Handicapped at 3min he was half a length behind Harold Denver, going 2min 48 4-ssec, and now he is off the front in a 2min 58sec class. Bracken is a reliable sort who will be going solidly at the finish. Dusolina is improving, while Pronto Bingen must have a great chance. Two who will command support arc BALLADE BRACKEN. Royal Saxon is again engaged in the Seadown Handicap and should give a good account of himself. Mount Boa returned to the winning list at Wingatui but a longer journey would be more to his liking. Limited returned to the winning list at Ashburton and should be a warm favourite. Isa appears to be in good shape, but may need a race. Francolin is speedy and should show up under her light impost. Greenaway appeals strongly. She was third to Palermo and Master Anomaly at Wingatui and her consistent record points to her being a winner soon. If reserved Taku Tama should be handy. The finish should be confined tq LIMITED GREENAWAY.
