NO LADY MEMBERS WILL BE ADMITTED.
A motion that ladies be admitted to membership of the New Brighton Bowling Club was defeated by a large majority at the annual meeting of the club last evening. Mr R. E. Holloway moved that, in the interests of the club, ladies be admitted to membership, and that play be allowed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m., at a fee to be decided upon by the members. The motion was seconded by Mr C. Henry. Mr Holloway, in speaking to his motion, stated that he had been dubious about going on with it, as he had heard that if it was carried, several members would resign. However, he put the proposal forward purely as a possible help for the. finances of the club. Mr F. E. Barrett spoke against the motion, stating that if it was carried he would resign.
