TWO CLASS ROOMS ARE WANTED AT ST ALBANS.
The Minister of Education (the Hon H. Atmore) hopes to be able to favourably consider an application which was made to him to-day on behalf of the St Albans School for two open-air classrooms.
Mr Atmore inspected the school, which is one of the oldest in Canterbury, and the position regarding it was put before him by Mr H. Holland, M.P. Mr Holland said that in some of the rooms, even with the fires going, the temperature had been low as 38 degrees during school hours. The building was very cold, and the fuel account for the winter totalled £75. He pointed out that the school was riddled with worm and that the shelter sheds and cloakroom had to be used as classrooms. He urged that two open-air classrooms be built.
The Minister indicated that he hoped to be able to favourably consider the application.
During the morning, Mr Atmore inspected the open-air school at Fendal- , He , was shown the work that had been done in developing the surroundings and also saw the pupils running round the school as an exercise.
