MORE ACCOMMODATION NEEDED FOR PUPILS.

INCREASING ROLL NUMBER AT NAPIER SCHOOLS. Per Press Association. NAPIER, March 31. Before the ’quake 2159 scholars at-, tended Napier primary schools, being accommodated in forty-seven rooms. To-day the total number of scholars is 1018, the accommodation being fifteen temporary rooms. A great influx of scholars is expected over Easter. In spite of this the Education Board asserts that the only extra accommodation in view is a school of six rooms. The Postal Department took over the Hastings Street School, and the board desires the Department to provide the cost of a building to replace that school, but complains that the promises to that effect by the Secretary to the Post Office are not being carried out. A number of refugees are returning daily, and the residential portion of the city is rapidly returning to nonnal. All supplies are obtainable in Napier. Visitors express surprise at the wonderful progress made. A big influx of visitors is expected over Easter. All shops will remain open on Saturday, but accommodation is extremely limited. , There is plenty of room for campers on the Parade. Only the main roads are open to traffic, as the bridges on the others are still under repair. The weather is beautifully fine.
