LATE SPORTING.

GOOD WORK PERFORMED ON ELLERSLIE TRACKS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 31. Although rain fell overnight, the tracks at Ellerslie this morning were not affected and provided excellent going, the weather being nice and mild. The course proper, with the poles 30ft out from the rails, was available, as was the No. 3 grass track. There was a fair amount of interesting galloping. Gold Money went seven furlongs in lmin 30 l-ssec and finished in good style. Corinax was sent over a round, being assisted over the last seven furlongs by Ratflight, the full journey taking 2min 6sec and the last seven lmin 31 3-osec. Corinax was several lengths in front. Sir Mond and Grand Spirit were partners over a round in 2min 9 4-ssec, the last seven taking lmin 36 l-ssec. Both shaped well. Brampton worked particularly well in company with Werata over a mile, the first half taking 49 4-ssec and the full distance lmin 44 3-ssec. Eager Rose jumped off at the seven furlong post, taking 38 4-ssec for the first three and lmin 33 l-ssec for the full distance, doing it well. Dark Prince went a round in 2min 13 4-ssec. the last seven in lmin 34 l-ssec. He carried a good weight and it was a useful effort. Two of the Easter Handicap candidates, Bright Glow and Lady Quex, jumped away at the seven furlong peg. running the first three furlongs in 37 4-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 30 l-ssec. They finished together and, as both carried good weights, it was an attractive effort. Gay Cockade worked very freely over a round in 2min 6 3-ssec, the last seven furlongs taking lmin 31 4-ssec, and he was going on nicely at the finish. The best half-mile sprint of the morning was done by Hampton Park, who registered 50sec on the No. 3 grass. Tambourine, Brown Prince and Neil were bunched at the end of six furlongs in lmin 18 4-ssec. Good Boy, who looks exceptionally well, ran six furlongs in lmin 16 2-ssec, the last half-mile taking 51sec. * * The jumpers Airtight, Wako King and Absent were companions in a round over the steeplechase course. The first-named pair, jumping with plenty of dash, were about twenty lengths ahead of Absent going over the hill, and they increased their advam tage. Airtight and Wako King gave good displays, while Absent jumped safely, but was not bustled. Takanini Notes. Ideal weather prevailed at Takanini, though early the track was inclined to cut up a bit after o\*ernight rain, but the going subsequently became good. In the Shade jumped off at the mile post, being picked up by Taurua at five furlongs, the latter being just in fror\t at the finish. In the Shade ran the first six furlongs in lmin I7sec, and the full distance in lmin 44 2-ssec. The last five furlongs were covered in lmin 6sec. Envoy jumped away four lengths clear of Eaglet, but Eaglet was within a length of Envoy after covering five furlongs in lmin 2 2-ssec. Eaglet’s time was slightly the better.
