BIG DROP IN CUNARD COMPANY’S NET PROFITS

(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, March 29. “The Times*’ says:—“There has been a remarkable fall in the Cunard Steam Ship Company’s net profits. Last year the profits totalled £18,601, compared with £809,639 for 1929, which was a record. With the amount brought forward, the profit makes £413,867 available, of which the preference dividend absorbed £135,000. The ordinary share dividend has been passed, whereas 7 h per cent was paid during the last three years.” The report states that, additional to the depression in Atlantic traffic, the Australian and New Zealand services were carried on under increasingly difficult condition throughout the year, owing to the people’s reduced purchasing power, Australia’s tariff and the fall of exchange.
