SCULLIN’S DECISION IS WELCOMED IN ENGLAND.
Commonwealth Prevents Default By New South Wales Government.

Mr Scullin’s decision to prevent New South Wales defaulting is featured in all the evening papers. The “ Standard ” carries a great banner line: “ Australia decides to pay." The stock exchange favourably reacted, Commonwealth fives sharply advancing. There was a general increase of 5 per cent. In the House of Commons, Mr J. H. Thomas, amidst general cheers, announced that the Commonwealth would provide the interest which New South Wales had declined to do.
