MAD GAMBLE AND A NATIONAL DISGRACE.
STRONG DENUNCIATION OF GRAND NATIONAL. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 31; 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. Denouncing the Grand National as a mad gamble, a' gross violation of the law against cruelty to animals and a national disgrace, the Equine Defence League has sent a letter to the National Hunt Committee urging the abolition of the Grand National. The letter declares that no animal can endure the ordeal and escape almost certain injury. Man owes the horse an enormous debt, which he by cowardly and diabolical treatment like the scene at Beecher’s Brook.
