HIGH SCHOOL BOYS IN ANNUAL CAMP.
PHYSICAL TRAINING IN MILITARY COURSE. “The idea of holding an annual camp or ‘barracks’ is an ideal one, both from the point of view of school discipline and that of military training,” said Mr G. J. Lancaster, head master of the Christchurch Boys’ High School, when asked for his views upon the subject of military training for schoolboys. Owing to the suspension of military training, the school authorities were unable to obtain the use of Burnham Camp and it was decided to hold a “barracks.” the boys coming to school in the morning and drilling the whole of the day. The “barracks” commenced last Wednesday and will conclude tomorrow, when the school breaks up for the Easter vacation. About 650 boys are under instruction in various sections. Major H. Henderson is in charge of training operations, assisted by Captain W. Hoare as adjutant, the officers of the corps and noncommissioned officers of the Permanent Forces. Second-Lieutenant M. A. Bull is in charge of the Artillery Section, assisted by Second-Lieutenant L. Kissel. The work is of an interesting nature, the drill being varied by physical training and organised games.
