WOMAN IS GUILTY OF SWINDLING PUBLIC.
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 30, 10.5 am.) PARIS, March 29. The so-called super-woman financier, Madam Hanau, whose bank failed in December, 1928, was convicted of swindling and abusing the public confidence, and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined 3000 francs. Lazare Block, her former husband, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment and fined 3000 francs. De Courville, a bank director, and Audibert, financial editor of Madam Hanau’s paper, the “ Gazette de Franc ”, were acquitted. Madam Hanau and Block were freed immediately, having served terms equivalent to their sentences.
