The death is announced from Sydney of Mr William Horner Fletcher, at one time a well known city accountant, aged eighty. He was a native of Auckland. Mr B. E. IT. Whitcombe left last night for Wellington. Mr Bernard Barker, of Christchurch, is to be the soloist at the forthcoming concerts of the Grevmouth Orchestral Society. . The Rev F. L. Frost, vicar of Tarariale. Hawke’s Bay. who has-been on furlough in Christchurch, left last evening on his return to the Xorth Island. At the Supreme Court yesterday, on the motion of Mr W. J. Sim. Mr Peter Wynn-Williams was admitted by Mr Justice Kennedy as a solicitor of the Supreme Court. Superintendent Higgins, of the Christchurch Free Ambulance left yesterday afternoon for Parnarssus. Mr W. IT. Down was elected president of the Canterbury Hockey Referees' Association, at the annual meeting of that body held last evening. Mr Arthur Duggan, who has been secretary of the Merivale Rugby Football Club for the last twenty-nine years, was again elected to the office at the club's annual meeting last evening. A motion of sympathy with Mr Sydney Smith, whose wife was fatally injured in a- lift accident at St George’s Hospital, was passed at the meeting of the Addington burgesses last evening. Owing to the amalgamation of the Auckland and Canterbury Forestry Schools the Auckland University ~~College has been compelled to terminate the engagement of Professor Corbin with six months' notice. The honour of being first patron of the Addington Burgesses’ Association was conferred upon Mr G.Gvde at the annual meeting of the association last evening. Mr Gyde, who is a foundation member of the association, was also reelected auditor. At the annual meeting of the Ric-cartotL-Sockburn United Football Club last night, feeling reference was made to the great loss sustained by the club ’.in the death.of Mr Alex Rattray, the president, and a resolution of sympathy was carried. The Rev L. B. Neale, minister of the Rugby Street Methodist Church, will leave Christchurch next month for Dunedin, where he will take charge of the Central Mission. He yvill be farewelled by the members of his congregation on Wednesday, April 8. The presentation was made at Blackwell Motors last evening of the silver challenge cup and gold medal completed for by the salesmen of the firm. The trophy was won this year by Mr Alfred Sirett. In making the presentation, Mr Blackwell referred to the splendid sales record of Mr Sirett. He expressed the hope that next year’s competition Would result in another close contest.
