NEW ASSOCIATION OF BURGESSES IS FORMED.

A Burgesses’ Association has been formed at Diamond Harbour for the Purpose of advancing the interests of the suburb. A large meeting of residents and ratepayers was held in Godley House to discuss the matter. The meeting was convened by Mr F. Cartwright. who sa.id that something should he done to unite the residents of Diamond Harbour, which had grown so rapidly' in the last few years. The purpose of a Burgesses’ Association would be to co-operate with the Lyttelton Borough Council. Mr L. F. Blewett moved that an association be formed. The motion was seconded by Air T. B. Bowring and passed. Mr Wells suggested that an effort should be made to have Diamond Harbour made a riding of the Lyttelton Borough, with a representative on the Borough Council. Air Bowring was elected president. Other officers were elected as follows: Vice-president, Mr F. Cartwright; secretary and treasurer, Air L. F. Blewe(t: assistant secretary. Mr M. J. Brown: committee. Alesdames W. Paine, B. H. Gilmour. E. R. Curtis, W. Alanson, Messrs AV. Paine, W. C. Cleary, E. Rudkin. W. Howarth and A. G. Sinclair. Tt was decided that the association affiliate with the L’nited Burgesses’ Association, and the president. and secretary’ were appointed delegates. The annual subscription was fixed at 2s 6d a member.
