KINDERGARTEN WORK AT PHILLIPSTOWN.
NINETEENTH ANNUAL MEETING IS HELD.
The nineteenth annual meeting of the Phiflipstown Kindergarten Committee was held at the home of Mrs T. E. Taylor, Dyer’s Pass Road, Cashmere. There were present: —Mesdames Dunbier, Woodham, Manchester, Drayton, Wyatt, Richards, Stuart, Francis, Misses Ryan, Gordon and Thomas. The balance-sheet was read and adopted. The report for the year showed an increase on the school roll of 20; total 70. The harvest festival, the birthday party and the Christmas party were all successful gatherings. Regret was expressed at the resignation of the secretary, Mrs Empson, on account of sickness in the home. At a social given by the committee to the parents, Mrs Taylor, on behalf of the committee, presented Mrs Empson with a crystal vase, as a slight token of love and esteem. During the year the school has been painted and a new fence erected. Thanks were due to Miss Suckling and her staff of teachers for their efficient and willing to Mrs Woodham and her helpers, Mr Taylor and Mr Reynolds, who, by their Saturday evening entertainments, had raised £4B 12s 6d, and also to Messrs Stacey and Hawker for bread, Mr Dunbier for carting and repairing stretchers, Mr Seager for painting the ceiling, Mr Williams for putting up the curtains. The following committee was elected:—Mrs T. E. Taylor (convener), Mrs Richards and Mrs Stuart (acting chairwomen), Mrs Dunbier (treasurer), Mrs C. Francis (secretary), Mesdames Manchester, Wyatt, Drayton, Woodham, Griffiths, Sullivan, Misses Gordon, Ryan, Thomas. Mrs Dunbier and Mrs Francis were elected representatives to the association executive. A discussion on ways of raising funds during the year followed. A delicious afternoon tea was served. On behalf of the committee Mrs Stuart thanked Mrs Taylor for her hospitality. Monthly Meetings. The monthly meeting af the Phillipstown Kindergarten Committee was held at the school on Tuesday, March 10. There were present:—Mesdames Stuart (in chair), Wyatt, Dunbier. Woodham, Sullivan, Francis, Misses Gordon and Thomas. Mrs Dunbier reported buying ten new chairs. It was decided to hold a fancy dress party at the end of the term, and to have a cake and work stall. The total on the school roll was reported to be 80; the highest attendance 64; lowest attendance 46; average 57. School subscriptions amounted to £2 16s 3d. Mrs Woodham handed in £5 5s from the Saturday evening entertainments. A rocking horse has been given to the school. Visitors to the school were:—Misses Adkins, Lucas, M’Kenzie, Miriwai, Mieti and Holland. The harvest festival will be held on Wednesday morning, March 18. Parents and friends are welcome.
