PREFERENCE GIVEN TO NEW ZEALAND TIMBER.
(Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, March 14. “ We don’t wish to encourage the use of imported timber when the expenditure of public money is involved, and it is a standing instruction to the Public Works Department that New Zealand timber be used in every possible case,” stated the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon G. W. Forbes, in the House yesterday when replying to a question regarding the use of timber in the process of earthquake rehabilitation. Mr Forties added that he did not anticipate that any relief moneys would be used for rebuilding purposes.
