THE WEEK’S WORK.
THE FLOWER GARDEN. Anemones are very showy, prolific in flowering, and cheap in price. Xow is the time to prepare beds for Anemones. Cow manure is best for them. Sow Mignonette seed, either in patches in the border or amongst shrubs, such as Rhododendrons. » Bulb planting is now commencig. Friability of soil is more important than manure. Lift any old clumps of Narcissi and divide them. If the bulbs have made new roots replant at once. Ranunculi can be planted now. Procure some bulbs of a good strain. It is better to pay a few extra pence and have good quality than trust to the results from a cheap offer. Chrysanthemums are now showing their buds. Take the second crown buds as they appear. Remove side shoots. For caterpillars on Asters, Zinnias, Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, etc., use arsenate of lead, one ounce to gallon of water. Seeds of Pansies, Stocks. Cinerarias, Primulas can be sown. Complete the layering of Carnations, etc. Those that were layered early will be ready for severing from the old plants. Cuttings of many bedding and rockery plants will root if taken now. Sandy soil and shade from bright sun are the chief points to observe with cuttings.
