THE DANCERS ” HEADS NEW BILL AT ST JAMES
Clean, invigorating and wholesome in every sense. “ The Dancers,” the talkie version of Sir Gerald Du Maurier’s stage success, which will begin to-day at St Janies’ Theatre, Is a great success. Adapted from a play of the same name, it is a departure from the all too frequently portrayed inconsistent side of life, and as a true, unbiased story of modern youth, is alike a triumph for both actors and producers. Far from being what the title would suggest, “ The Dancers ” deals not so much with dance-halls and cocktail parties as with outdoor life; now giving glimpses of a lumber camp in Canada, then turning to picturesque England and again to France. Tony Trevelyan has left his sweetheart Diana and gone to Canada tomake his fortune. There he meets Ma^i ne . a dancer at the camp, but true to Diana still in England, he ignores her advances. News comes that he has been left a fortune and an earldom. He returns home to Diana, but she has not been as true to their vows as he, and, s?iurred by her honour, refuses to marry mm. It remains for Maxine to calm Tony s grief and to bring the two togetliei' again, yet Diana, knowing she has played_ her sweetheart false, leaves him and flies to France to forget him. However, Tony seeks her out, and a happy reconciliation is made in a picturesque French village. Lois Moran is in the big role, with able support bv Walter Byron, Phillip Holmes. Mae Clarke and Mrs Patrick Campbell, the famous English artist. As Diana, heroine of this love story, Lois Mornn has excelled aN her previous work. Phillip Holmes is the lover, and the supporting cast is an excellent one. _ ,
