AIR PAGEANT IN MASTERTON.
CRASH MARS HERALD CUP COMPETITION. Per Pre»s Association. MASTERTOX, March 14. The North Island air pageant was held to-day in beautiful weather, about seventy competitors taking part. Flight-Lieutenant Mercer (Canterbury), who was second in the second heat of the turning competition, for the Xewbigin Cup. was fourth in the final, which was won by Flight-Lieutenant Buckley. The final of the B landing comp.'tition was Won by F. M’Donald (Wellington), . with Findlay second and Buckley third. The Herald Cup competition was marred by a crash in the second lap. between two ’planes which tipped each other in. the air rounding a bend. One landed upside down and the other lost a wing, besides other damage. Duthie (Wellington) won the event, and Jury (Wairarapa) was second. 11. B. Boys (Ilawke’s Bay) and P. C. Lewis (Auckland), who were in the crash, escaped injury. Squadron-Leader Findlay won the all-transport race, Flight-Lieutenant Mercer being third. Results:—
XEWBIGIN CUP. First heat—Flight-Lieutenant Olsea (Otago) 1, Captain Stedman (Wellington) 2. Second heat—Flight - Lieutenant Buckley (N.Z.A.F.) 1, Flight-Lieuten-ant Mercer (Canterbury) 2. B LANDING COMPETITION. Twelve competitors took part in the eliminating round of the B lauding competition, smd the following will take part in the final this afternoon: Squadron-Leader Findlay (N.Z.A.F.), Flight-Lieutenant Buekeridge (N.Z.A.F.), and M’Donald (Wellington). “HERALD” CUP. First heat: B. W. Bo3*s (Hawke’s Bay) 1, P. C. Lewis (Auckland) 2. Second heat: C. M. Duthie (Wellington) 1, A. V. Jury (Wairarapa) 2. Duthie was disqualified for his machine not being up to specifications, and Jury was awarded first. A LANDING COMPETITION. The following take part in the final of the A landing competition: Hudson (Otago), Brown (Hawke’s Bay), Saver (Wairarapa), Gardiner (Wellington).
