AUCKLAND, February 24. Business on the Stock Exchange has been only moderate since the last report.. Auckland Gas has been in steady demand, and there have been sales of both issues, with prices unaltered. At this morning’s call there was fair inquiry for banking shares, and buyers for New South Wales moved their limits up to £24 10s. Commercials had buyers at 13s 3d, and for New Zealands 46s 9d was available. Insurances also were rather better, with 36s 3d offered for New Zealands, and 50s for South British. Following sales in Christchurch, Goldsbrough Morts were again in request, with buyers at 17s. Union Oils were offered cheaper at 31s. At the noon call th.ere was a marked firmness in certain sections, with buyers advancing their limits. In the banking class bids for Commercials moved up to 13s 4d, for New South Wales to £25 2s 6d, and for New Zealands to 475. For New Zealand Insurances there were buyers at 36s 6d, and for Goldsbrough Mort bidders were up to 17s 6d, the highest figure reached for some time. King Solomon Mines again attracted interest, and there were buyers at Is lid. O THE It EXCHANGES. AUCKLAND, February 24. Sale—British Tobacco, 27s 6d. ADVANCE IN PRICES AT ASHBURTON YARDS. (Special to the " Star.”) ASHBURTON. February 24. There was a good yarding of fat sheep at the Ashburton yards to-day, and prices, compared with the Tinwald sale last week, showed an advance of 2s a head for the best pens. Messrs Doak brothers, Wakanui, secured top price (7s) for ewes; and Mr K. Butterick (14s 7d) for lambs. The best price for wethers was 15s Id. MINE MANAGER'S REPORT. A telegram received by the Christ*church Stock Exchange, Ltd., from K4ug Solomon Lead, Lts.. Qore. dated February 23, states that the mine manager’s report states that 89ft of driving had been done at the mine for the three weeks ending February 21, making a total distance of 222 feet from the shaft. The whole of this development had been in wash, and the present prospect continued to look promising for the future.
