MORTGAGEES TRYING TO MEET POSITION.
STATEMENT MADE BY THE PRIME MINISTER
“ Nothing has been done yet in regard to the revaluation of farms,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes), when interviewed last evening as he was passing through Christchurch to Wellington. “That and other matters .of rural finance has been referred to the Conciliation Committee at Wellington, and, upon the committee's report, consideration of the necessity for legislation for the adjustment of mortgages will be made. “ I am not able to cast any new light on the matter, but, as far as I can learn, the mortgagees, except in one or two isolated cases, are endeavouring to meet the position themselves.”
