DEPUTATION SENT BY POVERTY BAY DISTRICT.
Per Press Association. GISBORNE, January 6. A delegation representing the principal local bodies of th'e district left Gisborne this morning for Wellington for the purpose of interviewing Ministers on the subject of the suspension of railway construction. It was pointed out at last night’s meeting that the population of Gisborne and surrounddistrict to be served by the railway was 35.000. and that the intervening mountainous country prevented safe and economic roads being constructed
