WASHINGTON. December S. The Britisher’s desire always to appear immaculately dressed has led to a more widespread use of shoe polish in the British Isles than in any other country in the world. English manufacturers annually produce about 42,570,000 pounds of polishes, while about 97,000 pounds is imported from the United States, Commerce Department trade statistics reveal. Every Englishman’s shoes are polished in his own home or club. There are very few public bootblack establishments as in the United States
