Cargoes of new season’s Tainui and Hertford are available this week, but are selling slowly at lOd ex books. Uruguay lambs are offering freely ex store 6d-7d. Mutton Market.—Wethers are dull. The demand is only poor. Ewes are quietly steady. New Zealand Beef.—ln poor demand, owing to heavier supplies of Argentine beef. New Zealand Porker Pigs.—The market is easier, owing to heavier supplies of Home-killed. New Zealand Baconer Pigs.—Nominal prices. Continental bacon is selling at low prices. BRADFORD MARKET. The price of gold is 85s Cfcd an oz. HIKURANGI MINE NOW ALMOST DEWATERED.

Per Press A sedation. WELLINGTON, January 5. Advice has been received by the Mines Department that the water in the Ilikurangi mine, which has been flooded for some months, has been lowered to a depth of 14 feet and that it is expected that by to-night the mine will be completely dewatered. The flooding of the mine caused great hardship amongst the miners of the district as well as amongst the people of the township of Hikurangi. The mine gives employment to a large number of men and it is hoped that activities in the mine will be resumed in the near future.

In January three of the trading banks in Australia usually declare their interim dividends, namely, the Australian Bank, of Commerce, the Commercial Bank of Sydney and the Union Bank of Australia. The last dividend of the A.B.C. was at the rate of 7 per cent, while that of the Commercial of Sydney was 10 per cent and that of the Union Bank 12£ per cent.

ASHBURTON STOCK SALE. (Special to the " Star.”) ASHBURTON, January 6. A marked drop in tho price of fat sheep was recorded at the Tinwald sale to-day. Tho decline wa£ most pronounced in extra prime ewes, the prices when compared with the last sale be-, fore Christmas at the Ashburton yards showing a fall of 6s per head, while prime sorts dropped 4s. The price of wethers showed a decline of Is Od per head. The entry of fat sheep van small, but the quality was good. The best price for ewes was 9s lOd, secured by Mr J. Small, while the best wethers brought up to ISs 6d. Sales were as follows: — Fat ewes—Six at Ss 4d, five at 6s 10d, six at 7s 4d, five at 9s 7d, ten at 9s Id, six at 7s 7d, seven at 7s lOd, ten at 7s 7d, five at 9s Id, seven at 9s 4d, six at 9s 4d. three at 9s lOd. fourteen at Ss Id, eight at 8s 4d, seven at 7s lOd, three at 9s lOd, ten at 8s 4d. ten at 7s lOd, nine at 9s Id, seven at 8s 3d, six at 7s lOd, ten at 8s 7d, nine at 7s 7d, ten at 9s Id, eight at 9s Id, thiclaen at 7s lOd.
