CAPTAIN MORISSBY DIES AT SYDNEY.

Advice has been received by the Union Steam Ship Company, of the death at Sydney on Saturday morning of Captain 11. A. Morrisby, formerly one of the best-known navigators on the Pacific. The late Captain Morrisby was born in Tasmania in 1862, and in 1883 he joined the Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company. Eight years later he entered the service of the Union Company as chief officer on the Pateena, and in 3894 was appointed actingmaster on the Rotomahana and the Te Anau. He was definitely appointed master in 1896, when he took over the command of the Australia, and among the many Union vessels which he latecommanded were the following:—Pateena, Penguin, Rotokino, Wakatipu, Oonah, Waikare, Mokoia, Monowai, Maheno, Manuka, Moana, Marama, Makura, and Niagara. He left the Niagara in 1914, when he was appointed traffic superintendent at Sydney. lie retired from the Union Company’s service on March 31 last, and has since been living in retirement at Sydney.
