SHEARERS STRIKE IN QUEENSLAND.
POLICE CHALLENGE MENACING CROWD
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received January 6, 11.30 a.m.) BRISBANE, January 6. A shearers’ strike in the North is causing trouble. When a batch of southern shearers arrived at Mildura station under police escort, they were met by 200 local pastoral workers. The police drew their revolvers and challenged the local men for obstructing the King’s Highway. The men then assured the police that they did not intend to use force, and later persuaded some of the visitors to join their cause.
