When the removal of the “ fish-tail ” from the exhaust of a motor-cycle was mentioned by a witness at an inquest at Timaru, it drew forth a sharp comment from the f'oroner. Mr C. R. OrrWalker. S.M. “ Why was the fish-tail taken off?” he asked. “ Why do motorcyclists persist in taking these silencing devices off? Almost as a body they make hideous noises regardless of the feelings of invalids and other people. It seems so callous. You took the silencer off because it was unsuitable. Whj- did you not get another?”
