A New Zealand Eleven.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —The representative cricket matches have so far provided a genuine treat, the brilliant batting and the excellent variety of good bowling affording the local enthusiasts a rare treat. It is quite apparent that the selection of the team to tour the Old Country is going to be a very difficult task. This was the chief topic of conversation at Lancaster Park and on every side one could hear the chances of certain players being discussed. The bowlers are going to be the trouble and it looks as if one or perhaps two really good batsmen will be passed over on account of this. So far w’e have seen Matheson, Cleverley, Massey, Blundell, Crook and M’Girr in action and any one of them is entitled to a place in the team. M’Girr’s performance on Saturday, two for 17, is sufficient proof that hm is still as dangerous as ever and that fact coupled with his ability as a batsman should gain him a possy, and yet, I dunno. I am going to submit a team of fourteen players, and I would like other enthusiasts to criticise it and forward teams of their own. T. Lowry, M. L. Page, C. S. Dempster, J. E. Mills, R. Blunt, J. Newman, K. C. James, E. D. Blundell, H. G. Vivian, Weir, J. L. Kerr, A. W. Roberts, W. E. Merritt, R. O. Talbot. The batting strength is O.K. but is the bowling strong enough? It looks as if either Matheson, Cleverley or M’Girr will have to go in, but who will be dropped, Vivian or Weir? Then again, what about Allcott, a good, steady left-hand bowler and a very reliable bat? Yes, Mr Editor, the selectors have some job and the Plunket Shield series, instead of giving them a line has made their task more difficult.—l am, etc., G. P. J. O’C.
