QUEEN HELENE LEAVES RUMANIA
HAS FINAL BREAK WITH CAROL COME?
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, January 3. The British United Press correspondent at Vienna states that Queen Ilelene unexpectedly left Bucharest. It is not certain whether she has gone to the Royal Palace at Sinaia or to Switzerland, following her final break with King Carol.
After practically renouncing the throne of Rumania, Prince Carol settled in Paris, where he continued to be associated with a certain Madame Lupescu. Later he went to England, but was ordered by the British Government to leave the country. His son Michael was proclaimed King of Rumania, but, influenced from political quarters, Carol changed his mind and returned to his native land, where he replaced his young son on the throne. In June his wife, Princess Helene, was proclaimed Queen. It was announced that Carol’s association with Madame Lupescu had ceased, and the belief was that the estrangement of the Royal couple was a thing of the past, but in the following month Madame Lupescu arrived at King Carol s summer residence. It was reported that he had invited her there and provided rooms for her. In the meantime, the contemplated divorce of Carol and Helene was officially announced as having been annulled. Apparently, however, the reappearance of Madame -Lupescu caused further trouble, and in September it was stated that a reconciliation had become impossible. Clearly the estrangement is now complete. The possibility of Carol seeking another bride, even outside Royalty, is being discussed.
