HANDKERCHIEF QUILTING.
Handkerchief quilting is an attractive new form of colour quilting which is cheap, entails very little work, ond gives opportunities for some very charming gifts. The idea is to take handkerchiefs patterned with coloured designs, pad them with cotton wool and quilt all round the ready-made design. Lay the handkerchief over a piece of cotton wool the same size, back that with a square of cheap cotton material, and tack the three layers very thoroughly together—all round the edges and across both ways inside. Now quilt the whole design in running stitch (back stitch is unnecessary trouble, for the coloured design stands out so clearly) matching the different colours in the pattern. Join the top edge of the quilting to a pocket you have made to match the ground colour of the handkerchief and bind it with narrow ribbon.
