PERSONAL.
VICE-REG AL. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe arrived in Christchurch from the north yesterday morning. They were accompanied by Major A. IT. Bathurst and Mrs Bathurst, Captain and Mrs Vaughan Hughes, and Sir John Hanham, A.D.C. Their Excellencies attended the morning service at the Anglican Cathedral, and in the afternoon visited Sir Heaton Rhodes at “Otahuna.” Lord and Lady Bledisloe and Sir John Hanham left this morning by train for Dunedin and, after visiting Queenstown, Gore and Invercargill, will return to make a trip to the West Coast. They will visit Westport, Reef ton, Grey mouth and Hokitika, and, after spending a few days at the Franz Joseph Glacier, will return to Wellington on February 11. Mr E. J. Bell, librarian of the Canterbury Public Library, has left Christchurch on holiday. Sir Charles Clifford was a passenger from the north by the ferry steamer yesterday morning. Councillor E. IT. Andrews left on Saturday on a week’s holiday visit to Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki, returning to Christchurch via Oamaru. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. for Avon, and party, who are spending a camping holiday in Marlborough, are staying at Spring Creek.
