CAPTAIN BARNARD CRASHES IN BOG.
AIRMEN RETURNING TO ENGLAND BY SHIP
(United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received January 5, 11.30 a.m.) TUNIS, January 4. Captain C. D. Barnard, Lord Love lace and an American mechanic crashed near Tripoli, owing to the machine sinking in boggy ground after sixteen days’ rain. They were flying from London to Cape Town. The occupants were badly shaken. The ’plane was not badly damaged, but they are unable to continue the journey, and are returning to England by steamer. Captain C. D. Barnard piloted a Fokker monoplane for the Duchess of Bedford on a record-breaking flight ol 9000 miles in seven and a half days from England to India and back, in August, 1929.
