ANNUAL CONVENTION IS NOW CONCLUDED

MEETING OF METHODIST WOMEN’S BIBLE CLASSES. Business transacted at the annual convention of the New Zealand Methodist Young Women’s Bible Class Movement yesterday, the concluding day, included the policy in regard to auxiliary membership. The report of the committee set up to consider this matter was adopted. The balance-sheet of the movement, and budget for the current year, were adopted. Missionary expenditure shown in the budget provides for the maintenance of Sister Nicholls, deaconess among the Maoris, and a Native teacher and two orphans in the Solomon Islands. The fund towards the support of a Bible Class sister in the Solomons will be raised by a special freewill thank-offering, irrespective of the budget. Several miscellaneous reports were considered on resuming in the afternoon, including “ World Fellowship.” The policy in regard to the publication of the “ Link/' the official organ of the Young Men’s and Young Women’s Movements, was discussed. Headquarters of the movement are being transferred from Christchurch to Wellington, and the following officers were appointed:—President, Miss A. Tocker; secretary, Miss A. E. Firth; recording secretary, Miss M. E. Armstrong; treasurer, Mrs C. P. S. Boyer; committee. Misses R. Ward, F. Smyth, E. Harkness.

The convention unanimously ratified the appointment of Miss Elsie Sewell as travelling secretary, this being her third year in that office. The following resolution was carried: ** In view of the licensing poll of 1931, the convention strongly urges Bible Class members to use every endeavour to abolish the beverage use of alcohol.” The movement's appreciation of the work of the retiring New Zealand Executive Council was voiced by Miss Elsie Sewell. Thanks were also expressed to other officers, agents and friends who had assisted the movement. This concluded the business sessions, but opportunity was taken later to further express to the retiring New Zealand president and secretary the high regard in which they were held, and several presentations were made to them. The convention concluded with a communion and dedicatory service, conducted by the Rev E. W. Hames, at St John’s Church, Bryndwr.
