Dictators And Progress.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —History is singularly devoid of any evidence in support of Mr Colonna’s contention that dictators have been the enemies of progress. Whether by mental persuasion or by physical force, dictators have been responsible for the present social and racial development of the race. Apparently Mr Colonna still clings to the now out-of-date belief in a theistic earthly governance, and that Democracy is the real expression of this Divine will. Unfortunately, there is no evidence to uphold theism. Democracy, in its present form, stands for stagnation, not progress. It is almost impossible for a leader to fight his may to . the top under present conditions. He would be howled down by the mob, whose mental equipment is out-of-date the moment it is acquired, so long does comprehension take to dawn on the mass mind.—l am, etc., RATIONALIST.
