Can Amy Johnson Stand The Strain?
AW Oman's View .
JIfISS AMY JOHNSON'S physical and mental condition as she sets out on her flight to Pekin, brings into question women’s ability to sustain prolonged strain in aviation. Her case, however, must be regardedas a severe test indeed, for not only did she accomplish the impossible for women in her flight to Australia, but her very success carried with it further endurance tests in receiving the nation’s congratulations.
The substantial rewards which she received involved the moral obligation to go on flying—even to attempt other records. Fairly launched upon this course she cannot quit, but on the other hand, it sometimes seems as if the price women pay for keeping on may be too great. The willingness of the spirit will sustain weakening physique for a time, but after that . . . ? B.E.S.
